Leader Recovery Segment:
Torbert recovery dr= 5, NE.
Hill recovery dr= 4, NE.
Strategic segment:
strategic dr= 4+5= 9, Leader Falls Ill
Leader dr= 1+1= 2, Lee falls Ill.
The exact time that he fell ill along the North Anna historically!
Reinforcement Segment:
Butler arrives in the Capital.
BH Jones, Browne and Vaughn arrive in Lexington
CSA reinforcement dr= 1, 1 manpower show up. Wharton in Staunton is now manlevel 3.
Crook, Sickel, White, Hayes, Averell, Schoonmaker arrive in Lexington.
Duffie arrives in Staunton.
16 Union replacements from last cycle arrive. Birney gets 5, Gibbon 6, Wright 2, and Getty 3.
Union has 87 total losses minus 40 already received is 47 unreplaced losses. Modifier is times 4.
Union replacement dr= 2 times 4 = 8 manpower next strategic cycle. All replacements are headed for the Army of the Potomac.
Valley segment:
Sigel, Thoburn, Moor, 10NY, 15NY and 20PA attack Staunton.
vs Staunton: tactical -1, 16:9= 0 for a -1 attack The retreat to New Market is a strange one ... will
only happen in these exact circumstances. Paul has attacked with the
perfect configuration to force this (i.e. simultaneously attacking Lexington and
Charlottesville too). Basically this represents Crook moving in to the Valley
south of Breckinridge and working with Sigel to drive off Breckinridge to the
north. Normally Breckinridge would cross the Blue Ridge and retreat to
Charlottesville, but with Crawford's threat there, he can't. The capture of Lynchburg and Staunton earn Paul another
6VP
per cycle ... and Lynchburg is in grave danger. The James-Kanawha canal
ran through Lynchburg. Losing that city severs the last Confederate path
to the Shenandoah Valley. Bermuda Hundred Segment: vs PWJ: tactical 0, 3:1(2)= 0 for a +0 attack Even more interesting. Taking Drewry's allows
Union troops to enter the map just south of Richmond. Initially it will
probably be only 1 X Corps division ... but it could be more once Butler shifts
north. Paul clearly has a better understanding of the off map movement than I -I find this part very difficult to
understand-both here and in OTR-please help me see the light! I regret attacking Petersburg, the only reason I attacked it was so that PWJ wouldn't be attacked. I hadn't counted on Walker attacking. Depot segment: I wouldn't be surprised to see the depot (at White
House Landing) be attacked. I need to supply my units near Richmond so I have no choice but to put the depot there. Supply status segment: Ammunition segment: Union Command segment: I get lucky die rolls for Butler and Sigel, odds were I would be passive on both fronts. VP segment: But don't be fooled ... Paul is earning 20 VP per
cycle through off-map boxes and counties he controls. He'll score those points at
least twice more, giving him +58VP if he can hold everything. He'd need 62
more VP from proximity of Union infantry divisions to Richmond to win the game
with a Union marginal victory (+120 VP) on May 31. That will probably be
tough to achieve ... but if Grant can keep the game going until June 4 Paul
could probably eek out a win. Currently Paul only needs a 5 or higher on
two dice to extend the game by 4 turns during that May 31 check ... however with
just 2 more Union casualties that will become a 6 or higher. It's still
anyone's game here! Scott needs to retake off-map territory, stop the
drive on Richmond and continue to inflict casualties. It's a tall order...
