Random dr= 4+6=10, Confederate Command Paralysis

Leader tranfers: Burnside to Potter

County control: Spotyslvania county is now CSA controlled.

Pre turn: My main priority for this turn is to have Hancock and Warren survive. After that Sheridan will be sent south to cut the railline southeast of Bumpass Turnout. Other things to do is have Sedgwick either threaten Ewell's rear or move southwards towards the CSA depot to force a retreat to the south. Crawford should detach a sub to build a pontoon bridge across the Rapidan while he moves towards Orange CH. Stevenson has been stuck near Germanna Ford for days because of the relatively short days, I need to find a way to get him to the front.

Pre turn: Stuart will try to block Burnside (with prayers) and harass supply. Ewell will detach Johnson to Stuarts' command, Early/Rodes to chase Sedgwick. Longstreet/Hill to fight Hancock and Warren.

Front line anyone?

Init #1: Activate Warren (Griffin, Wadsworth, Robinson, Art Res-2)
dr= 2+1=3
Robinson f1 3220
Griffin force march dr= 4-1=3
Grant, Warren, Griffin f1 mnlvl 16 disorg 3222
vs Anderson: flank +4, 11:10=0, tactical -1, artillery -1, hasty -1 = +1 overall
U6 1Da result, Griffin f4 disorg mnlvl 15 lose 1 ammo

C5 1Dr result, Anderson f4 disorg lose 1 ammo, retreats to 3120. Anderson loses a manpower in the retreat, now mnlvl 13

Art Res-2 f1 3320, Wadsworth f1 3320

I would have liked a better movement roll to get a prepared attack. Having to force march wasn't all bad, sometimes being disorganized can get you a better result due to having a lower combat value.

I see the situation but don't see how I can pass up the possibility of wiping out 2 corps! That hurts on Anderson though.

Init #2: Activate Hill (Heth)

Rodes f2
corps assault dr= 2, ok
modifiers: assault +1, ratio 10:4 = +1, artillery NE(demo-1), tactical +2, flank +1 = +5 overall
C5 a result, no advance
U1 3DR* result, Mott f4 dem-2 disorg mnlvl 2 lose 1 ammo, Chapman f4 dem-2 disorg mnlvl 1 lose 1 ammo
Both units retreat to 3424

That's what I had in mind-and two very fortunate results.

As Scott is demonstrating, Lee's army is still a very dangerous weapon in 1864, despite their numerical inferiority.  5 losses in the last two attacks!

Init #5: Activate Sedgwick (Getty, Wright, Ricketts)
dr= 4+1=5
Sedgwick to Wright
Sedgwick, Wright f1 2625
Getty f1 2525, Ricketts f1 2523

This should put some pressure on Scott to move farther south instead of attacking me. Sedgwick is closer to his Bumpass Turnout depot than any CSA infantry division.

Init #6: Activate Longstreet (Field)
dr= 5+2-1=6
Longstreet, Field extended dr= 2 ok, f2 3423
Chapman declines to cavalry retreat
modifiers: normal 0, ratio 9:1.5 = +5, artillery NE (dem-2), creek -1, Dem-2 = +1 = +7 overall
R2 a result, Longstreet and Field advance to 3424

U1 2DR* result, Mott is KIA, Chapman f4 disorg dem-2 mnlvl 1 retreats to 2826

I decided to stay and fight to slow down Longstreet. I decided to kill Mott off because Chapman could cavalry retreat if necessary.

Just can't pass up these pigeons!

Init #7: Activate Sheridan (JI Gregg, Davies, McIntosh)
dr= 3+5+2 = 10
Sheridan transfers to McIntosh
Sheridan, Wilson, McIntosh f1 4126
vs Wickham: tactical +1, artillery 0, normal 0, 3:0.5 = +5 = +6 overall
U5 a result
C1 3DR* result, Wickham KIA

McIntosh has 2 MP left so moves to 4128
DM Gregg, Davies f1 3631
Davies f1 3534

I would have liked to keep Sheridan with Gregg's division but I wasn't sure if I needed Sheridan's tactical in the attack against Wickham.

The ADC die roller strikes again, 8 consecutive ones!

I had to stop using that die roller in an On To Richmond campaign game I'm playing ... the day kept ending early!  I see it is up to its old tricks.

U1 4DR* result, Griffin f4 disorg dem-2 mnlvl 11 lose 1 ammo, retreats to 2821

Again good results in combat-a couple days ago this would have been great stuff. Paul seems unconcerned with what I do here as he is in my rear. Have to hope I can take these 2 corps out and fold back in before he causes too much trouble.

After Wadsworth dug in and Early got out of the bushes-I was ready to call this a day!

The only bad thing about using ADC is the dang die roller. How many snake eyes did we have in this turn? I think you'd have a far lesser chance of the day ending during face to face play. We had snake eyes 5 times out of 23 chances and that doesn't include the string of ones during the middle of the turn. All things considered I would consider this turn a failure, I didn't accomplish much besides moving Sedgwick to the south.

Paul is in desperate straits.  Although he has a corps racing south towards Richmond, they are out of supply and have no real hope of regaining it.  Fighting a frantic battle for survival surrounded by enemy forces, Grant's army won't have time to forage in the near future.  Paul will start to lose manpower at the end of next turn and some of his units will begin to run out of ammunition.  And if Scott can wipe out the surrounded elements of Warren's V Corps...

Paul is, however, threatening to cut off Lee's supply as well.  Scott may want to embark some forces from Drewry's Bluff on rail cars headed north to secure his depots along the Virginia Central railway and to reinforce Richmond against a raid from Sheridan.  There is no one at all in Richmond right now.  Plus Scott can't afford to lose too many depot at 15VP apiece.  However, moving ANYONE from Drewry's gives Butler a real shot of taking that off-map box during the upcoming Strategic Cycle.  Decisions, decisions!
