Random events dr= 2+3= 5, Rain (current). Minor Rivers unfordable this turn, Major Rivers unfordable thru next turn.
Leader transfers: Grant to Barlow, DM Gregg to JI Gregg, Sedgwick to Ricketts. Ewell to Rodes.
Off-Map Phase: No transfers
County Control Phase: Caroline and Spotsylvania counties are Union controlled.
Attachment Phase: 13PA attaches to Chapman.
Pre turn: Not much will be accomplished this turn with the rain. After capturing Port Royal I'll move my units forward but won't risk extended marches. I like the fact that the rain delays Scott from reinforcing Hanover Junction with the main body of the ANV until May 16.
Pre turn: My plan is to fall back on Hanover and try to set up some line of defense. I think the rain helps me-I am now all in supply at least.

I retreat Gregg so I don't get trapped against the swollen North Anna River. Unfortunately I have to retreat to the northwest.

The Port Royal garrison is now complete. They'll start to entrench when it stops raining.
Historically, Grant switched his base to Port Royal on May 21, when he moved south from Spotsylvania. According to that timetable, Paul is ahead of schedule by 6 days.

I've been retreating from some low odds attacks at times this turn. I don't want to get routed and more importantly I can cav rt the full 6 hexes. Better than trying to roll for movement in the rain, a guaranteed 12. Just hope I don't lose any men in cav retreats.

The only reason to do this is to be in a position to abandon Culpeper county when available. I'll so the same thing to Artillery Reserve-1 if the artillery aren't recalled.
