Random events dr= 2+4=6, Union Command Paralysis

Leader transfers: Sedgwick to Ricketts. Stuart to Lomax. Longstreet to Field.

Pre turn: I just hope to survive another day. Both Lee and Longstreet are set up attack Hancock's out of supply units, I have to hope that Scott loses the combat roll. I hope to send Burnside south to distract him, if Burnside is alone in Caroline county then the Union supply situation should start to improve with the next 2 strategic cycles.

Pre turn: Stuart get to his depot-cut the rails above, the rest stay between Sheridan and Richmond. Longstreet to advance on Spotsylvania CH, Hill work with Longstreet. Ewell hold the VI and slide to the right.

Ok, may get some combat soon and see Longstreet advance with a flourish!

Wish I could stop that but I'll do my best to give him problems to think about.

Init #4: Longstreet assaults Gibbon
Field to f2
dr= 1 ok
modifiers: assault +1, Longstreet +1, ratio 9:7.5(5)=0, art 4:3 rolling=-1, tactical +2, flank +1 = +4 overall

U1 1DR result Gibbon f3 disorg dm-1 mnlvl 6, loses 1 ammo, retreats to 3318
C1 fa result, Longstreet and Field f3 advance to 3521

However, due to the snake eyes rolled during the combat Longstreet must roll to see if he's been wounded. The modifiers are -1 for a woods hex, -1 if the leader is Stuart, Sedgwick or Longstreet. If the modified die roll is 2 or less the leader dies.

Longstreet dr= 6 - 1(Longstreet) = 5, lives to fight another day.

Ok that went well but I can't lose Longstreet-and so far from the Wilderness!

Init roll: C5 U1 CSA

Init #5: Hill assaults Hancock in Spotsylvania CH

Lee grand assault dr= 1, Field to f4
modifiers: assault +1, Lee +1, ratio 19:8(6)=+1, art 7:3 rough=NE, tactical +1, flank +2 = +6 overall

U2 2DR result, Mott f3 disorg dem-1 mnlvl 4 and Chapman f3 disorg dem-1 mnlvl 2 retreat to 3021. Both lose 1 ammo.
C3 a result, Field f4 advances to recapture Spotsylvania CH (officially doesn't happen until the start of next turn)

There wasn't much I could do to save Hancock once he was out of supply. Even under entrenchments his combat value was too low with being disorganized.

That also went well captured back Spotsylvania-but maybe a moot point now with Burnsides progress.

Day ends?
Grant declines to continue the day.
Lee dr= 1, day continues

It's rare that Lee wants to keep the day going after Grant declines (usually the CSA wants to get to the end of the campaign as soon as possible and opts to end all turns).  However, this is the right move for Scott ... he is threatening to win a major victory at Spotsylvania right now by routing the scattered, out-of-supply Union forces.  He has to press forward.

Init #13: Activate Torbert (Devin, Custer) for strategic movement
Devin f2 1702 (Brandy Station), Torbert, Custer f2 2001

Scott is making a run to damage the railroad stations north of Culpeper. If he can do that it will hurt the Culpeper depot so I move back to guard the stations using strategic movement. I need to garrison Culpeper county anyway in case Mosby shows up, looks like Torbert gets the job. He'll move south once the depot is dismantled. In the meantime Lomax will be out of supply if he is north of the Rappahannock in the next supply segment. I'll also take advantage of Stuart's absence from his cavalry again to kill more enemy cav ("Smash 'em up!"). If it rains for a while Stuart will be AWOL from the front lines.

Init #14: Torbert entrenches

Well no string for me and a nice move by Paul.

Day ends?
Grant declines to extend the day.
Lee dr= 6, day ends.

Would like to continue this day-the next one starts with me in some trouble on both flanks! I will go down swinging!

Merritt, Birney, McIntosh and Davies forage successfully.

Yikes!  This is one of the most convoluted situations I've ever seen.  Without a functioning supply base, Paul has been moving his Union infantry directly south toward Richmond.  But the Rebel counterattacks near Spotsylvania have scattered the Union forces.  There is no front per se ... each corps (and sometimes not even that) is fighting independently.  This game is going to get very bloody if things don't settle down ... neither of these players will pass up these opportunities to hit a scattered enemy in the rear or flank.  Sheridan's cavalry is the biggest thing working in Paul's favor right now.  The Rebel cavalry near Guinea Station is outnumbered nearly 4:1 and could easily be overwhelmed with Stuart and F Lee off on another raid across the Rappahannock.
